Norwich United knocked Ridgeons League Cup holders Wisbech Town out of the competition at the second round stage last night after a 1-0 victory at Plantation Park.
Paul Chick's side scored the all important goal after just 14 minutes, Andy Key sending the keeper the wrong way from the penalty spot after Louis Cutajar had been brought down.
The Fenmen, who had won eight successive league games and progressed in the FA Vase at the weekend, had the ball in the net after 34 minutes when Chris Bacon headed home but the referee had already blown his whistle for a foul.
Wisbech's Liam Nimmo was later dismissed for a second bookable offence before Thomas Mustapha went desperately close to doubling the Planters' advantage late on with a shot that drifted just wide of the target.
Elsewhere Dereham Town beat near neighbours Fakenham Town 2-0 in front of the biggest crowd of the night, 134, while Wroxham beat Gorleston by the same scoreline at Trafford Park.
