Deciding they didn't want to take a chance on Danny Haynes has proved to be a mistake for Norwich City - a big mistake.

For the ninth time since that fateful day when they watched the former Charlton trainee in a trial game and let him leave to then join Ipswich, Haynes has found the back of the net against the Canaries.

Although a south London lad, goals against City mean as much to him as any true Blue after being rejected by the Canaries.

He said: “I left Charlton went to Norwich but they said no and then I had the chance to come here.

“I had been let down before so I just had to get on with it and I did that.

Haynes told the EADT a fortnight ago after scoring twice for the reserves in their 3-0 win over City's second string, in front of Peter Grant, that he couldn't wait to play the first team and score against them again. He was as good as his word with two top-notch finishes.

Haynes has scored at every level from Academy, reserves and first team, for Ipswich against Norwich and he admits it means a lot to him.

Haynes said: “It is a great feeling to get two goals in a local derby, especially after coming off the bench.

“I know what it means to the fans and it means a lot to me. Goals against Norwich are special especially for the supporters.”

Haynes admitted the ball came off his arm when he scored the winner in the 2-1 Town win at Carrow Road last March, and some people claimed it was a Gary Doherty own goal, but there was no doubt about the validity of either of his goals in this stunning victory.

Haynes said: “I can say without doubt it was a definite header this time and the second was probably the best goal I have scored so far for Ipswich.

“I saw the keeper off a little bit so I placed it in the far corner.”

After scoring two goals during his loan spell at Millwall, Haynes is flying high but admits he is not guaranteed a place in Jim Magilton's team.

He said: “I can't say I should be starting I just have to take it as it comes. I just keep working hard and doing what I can.

“Being at Milwall helped me get my confidence back up and get some experience.”

The double helped lift Haynes after limping out of Town's 2-0 defeat by Sheffield Wednesday the week before which cost him the chance of international honours.

He said: “I was supposed to go with the England Under 19s and was disappointed to miss out with a sore hip.”
