Harry Webb returned to the British F4 Championship and claimed the Challenge Cup lead after his fourth category victory at Knockhill in Scotland.
'Taking the lead in the Challenge Cup standings is really important and I hope I stay on top,' said the Topcroft racer.
'Winning it would earn me free entry into the championship next year and hopefully if we can get the sponsorship in place I can come back for a second year and fight for the title.'
The weekend was busier than usual as an additional race was scheduled to make up for the race lost at Oulton Park earlier in the season with Webb claiming third place in the opening event in the Challenge Cup class.
The following race was the extra event with Webb claiming second place in the Challenge Cup and seventh place overall, having been holding fourth place overall in the latter stages until a clash with title rival Oliver York damaged his front wing and saw him tumble down the race order.
Race three of the weekend saw Webb finish in second place in the Challenge Cup, and seventh on the road, with a strong run after having started the race from 11th on the grid.
The final race yielded victory for the local racer in the Challenge Cup class with Webb having to work hard throughout the race to keep rivals Olli Caldwell and Hampus Ericsson in check.
'It's great to take the lead in the Ford F4 Challenge Cup, we've been working towards this all season,' said Webb.
'I got a good start and picked up some places.
'Others had some problems and that helped us a bit.
'I was really pleased to be able to keep Caldwell at bay.
'My tyres were pretty worn in that race and he got quite close for several laps, but I managed to respond and stretch out a small gap to give me some breathing space.'
Overall Webb was pleased with his weekend's work.
'There is some frustration at the contact in the rescheduled race from Oulton Park because we were on for a really good result in that one,' he said.
'But we've moved up a place in the overall championship standings and have got into the lead of the Challenge Cup which was the main aim going into the weekend.'
