Harleston Magpies Ladies start a 20th successive season in the National League on Saturday with a game at Bedford (1.30pm).

It will be an important campaign because of changes for 2019-20 which involve reducing the number of teams from 40 to 30.

The current structure has a Premier Division and a West, East and North Conference. The following season there will be a Premier Division and a Division One North and Division One South, each containing 10 teams. For Magpies to qualify they will have to finish in the top six this season.

Clyde Camburn returns as head coach for his third spell and has added Annie Nunn, Emma Lee-Smith and Debbie Francis as assistants.

Nunn has stood down from playing to concentrate on coaching. Charlotte Peet will not be playing in goal while it looks like captain Lucy Belsey is out for the season having suffered a nasty shoulder injury in pre-season. Vice captain Lauren Barber will step up to lead the team while Jess Bloom has returned to the club and Megan Brown will take over in goal.
