Harleston Magpies got their East Conference campaign up and running by beating St Albans 1-0 in their first home fixture.

After last week's disappointing opening day display at newcomers Barnes, Magpies were determined to improve key areas of their game.

The hosts started the first half with high intensity and this forced an error which saw them regain possession in the attacking 25 and Emma Lee-Smith set up Lizzie Clymer who hit a first-time strike from the top of the circle to open the scoring.

Before half-time Magpies were unlucky not to extend their lead when Abby Gooderham was denied by the post.

The second half saw Magpies continue to threaten but they were unable to create clear opportunities and St Albans pressed for the equaliser. The defence was strengthened with the addition of Lottie Summers, who impressed on her National League debut as the hosts saw the game out.
