Great Yarmouth Town ended 2012 on a high after a comfortable 2-0 win over Downham Town in Division One.

Joel Watts wrapped up the points two minutes into the second half after a first-half own goal put Yarmouth in front.

Yarmouth got off to a positive start and could have taken the lead after just two minutes, Neil McMorran rising highest to meet Robin Andersen's corner, but he headed over.

Matt Calvert's late challenge on McMorran should have merited the game's first yellow card. Instead it came three minutes later as Simon Bird tripped Mitch Forbes.

From Andersen's resulting free-kick, chaos ensued in the Downham box and, racing back towards their own goal and under pressure from Yarmouth attackers, one of Downham's rearguard turned the ball past his own keeper Luke Pearson.

Two minutes later and Watts went close to doubling the lead, robbing last defender Royce Rawlings before blasting over with only Pearson to beat.

With five minutes of the half remaining Ryan Chamalambous volleyed over the bar after George Barnden headed away Sam Hanslip's cross and in first-half stoppage time Mat Dye headed Craig Dickson's cross over the bar.

Yarmouth started the second half brightly and took just two minutes after the restart to double the advantage.

Watts stole the ball from Charalambous and rounded Pearson before coolly slotting home.

Elsewhere in the First Division, Swaffham Town were held to a 2-2 draw at home to Ipswich Wanderers.

Difficult conditions at Shoemakers Lane were made worse by a downpour as the game started, but that didn't hold back the entertainment, with both teams eager to finish the year playing football after the recent postponements.

The visitors were dominant in the first half, going ahead in the 25th minute.

The Pedlars, missing Richard Cornwall through illness, levelled three minutes into the second half through Rory Harper, following up his spilt shot. Joe Jackson put them in front after 66 minutes but Wanderers equalised five minutes from time through Scott Cruickshank.
