Grant Holt in action again as Wroxham win at Great Yarmouth Town

The 37-year-old Norwich City legend, who made a scoring debut for the Yachtsmen in Saturday's Norfolk Senior Cup win over Fakenham, didn't get a goal this time around but still helped his new team to a welcome victory after consecutive league defeats.

The game was settled by a goal in either half from Sonny Carey, with Wroxham moving up to fifth in the table as a result and the Bloaters staying rooted to the bottom after their eighth defeat in 10 games.

The two sides will be meeting at The Wellesley again on Saturday in the first round proper of the FA Vase.

It was also a good night for Norwich United, who made it five wins and a draw in six matches when they thumped Thetford Town 5-0 at Plantation Park to go back up to third.

Sam Watts fired home after just eight minutes and Liam Jackson netted from the penalty spot 10 minutes before the break after Jordan Forbes had been tripped by Bruno Tavares.

Luke Pearson made two important saves from Quevin Castro and Andrew Wood either side of the break but the Planters stretched their lead with a 65th minute own goal when an under pressure Jon Carver turned in George Watts-Sturrock's cross and three minutes later Watts grabbed his second from close range when Andy Eastaugh headed a corner into his path.

Substitute Max Lane, just 16, completed the scoring in the 89th minute when he grabbed his first goal for the club after racing through and slotting past Will Viner.

Diss Town bowed out of the competition when they went down 3-0 at near neighbours Debenham LC. Andrew Crowe, Joey Langfield and Luke Taylor got the goals.

Anglian Combination Premier Division side Acle United recorded a shock Norfolk Senior Cup victory at last season's beaten finalists Downham Town. They won 2-1 to book their place in Friday evening's third round draw.
