Revenge will be the underlying theme when Gorleston face Great Yarmouth Town in the Norfolk Senior Cup this afternoon.

The local rivals take a break from league action when they contest the competition's first quarter-final today.

Lower-level Yarmouth beat the Greens 1-0 in the first round of the FA Vase in October and Gorleston boss Stewart Larter admits he's more determined than ever to turn the tables on Yarmouth manager Mike Derbyshire.

Larter said: 'I've worked with Mike, we still talk occasionally, and he's doing a really good job at Yarmouth.

'But there will always be a rivalry between the two clubs. The supporters would be disappointed if there wasn't. For 90 or 120 minutes Mike will want to win the game just as much as I do.

'We were the better side in the Vase game but Danny Cable (Yarmouth keeper) had a worldy and pulled off a number of saves. And as I said at the time, we got mugged off in the last two minutes by a very good finish from Mitch Forbes.'

Midfielder Zak Clarke will be suspended for the Thurlow Nunn Premier hosts after their game at Woodbridge on Saturday fell foul of the weather. Frontman Christy Finch is unavailable.

The First Division Bloaters will be without several key men themselves. Rob Anderson (knee), Callum Jones (family bereavement), Kyle Howell (cup tied), Shaun Bartley (ankle) and Joel Watts – poised to join Gorleston, even though he will be cup tied for the fixture – are all set to miss out.

Yarmouth boss Derbyshire added: 'I don't think anybody thought we were going to win at Gorleston in the Vase so that's helped generate more interest this time as we beat them in that east coast derby.

'From my point of view, and I'm sure it's the same for Stewart, our focus is still the league and finishing as high as possible. But it's going to be a great day. There'll be nerves, excitement and plenty of people there.'

n In league action, Thetford Town are looking for their first home win of the season in the Thurlow Nunn Premier, when they host Walsham-le-Willows, one of the three teams they have beaten so far this season.

Kirkley & Pakefield host fifth-placed Brightlingsea Regent and Norwich United, who had a four-match winning streak ended last week, travel to mid-table rivals Brantham Athletic.

In the First Division, Dereham Town Reserves could do Fakenham Town a favour when they host league leaders Whitton Town.

If Fakenham win at Long Melford, and Whitton lose at Dereham, then Fakenham can claim top spot.
