It was a mixed weekend for the region's sides in the FA Vase with just two from a possible six progressing to the second round.

Gorleston found the back of the net six times as they progressed after a pulsating cup tie at the expense of London Tigers.

Despite the result the Greens were behind after 27 minutes, but a hat-trick from Keegan Middleton, combined with two goals for Peter Lambert and a goal from Joel Watts ensured Ricci Butler's side progressed in a game which had it all, and saw both sides finish up with 10 men, as Chris Sandford was sent off for the Greens.

It was also a good day for Kirkley and Pakefield, who breezed past fellow Thurlow Nunn Premier Division outfit Brantham Athletic, running out 4-0 winners, with Ross Gilfedder, Jordan Haverson, Matty Brown and Kyle Baker on target for the Royals.

It wasn't good news for Diss Town though. The Tangerines found themselves behind after just seven minutes when Paul Shave rose above the hosts' defence to head home Jordan Williams' lofted ball into the area.

Ross Potter's side responded well and were level after 23 minutes, with Jordan Armes converting from the penalty spot after a high-footed foul on Kyle Downes by Shave.

Six minutes later the hosts took the lead when Danny Self robbed Basildon of possession, before playing a neat one-two with Downes and guiding the ball into the bottom corner of Grant Hayward's net.

Five minutes before half-time, Lindisipho Mytanda equalised for the Bees. The striker tried his luck from long range and his effort took a fortunate deflection to find the back of the Diss net.

Both sides wasted several good opportunities in a scrappy and disjointed second half, but with extra time looming a poor mistake from Tangerines' stopper Matt Powley ensured it was the Essex side that progressed.

The former Dereham Town keeper came for a lofted ball into the penalty area but failed to collect, allowing Nyanja Fahid to nip in and lob the ball over Powley to steal victory for the Essex side.

There was also late heartache for Great Yarmouth Town, who suffered a 2-1 defeat away at London Colney,

Jay Turner had put the Bloaters in front before the visitors pulled level from the penalty spot after 70 minutes and went on to secure the victory with a decisive 88th-minute strike.

Luke Reed's strike wasn't enough for Swaffham Town to book their place in the second round, though; the Pedlars suffered a 2-1 defeat at Shoemakers Lane at the hands of FC Broxbourne Borough.

Stephen Reid and Billy Smith were both sent off on a day to forget for Wisbech Town who were also dumped out of the competition after a 4-0 home defeat to Alvechurch.

In the Thurlow Nunn Premier Division, Norwich United moved 11 points clear at the top of the table after a 4-2 victory over Hadleigh United, with Matt Blake adding to his ever increasing goal tally with a brace with Thomas Cullumbine and Adam Hipperson also on target for the Planters.

Elsewhere, Thetford Town remain bottom of the table after a 3-0 defeat away at Stanway Rovers and Robbie Harris' Fakenham Town side are just two places above the Brecklanders, after they were beaten 3-1 away at Long Melford, with Matt Gilchrist getting the Ghosts back in the game before two goals in 10 minutes saw Melford claim all three points.

In the First Division King's Lynn Town Reserves suffered a 2-0 defeat at The Walks against Halstead Town.

Downham Town recorded a 4-1 win away at Stowmarket thanks to goals from Aaron McKenna, Jono Sykes and a Mark Smith brace.
