Gorleston has become the latest local club to win the GolfMark award which identifies junior and beginner friendly facilities.

To win the award from the English Golf Union and English Women's Golf Association, clubs have to be assessed and reach a national standard in coaching and playing, club environment and child protection and duty of care.

Secretary/manager David James said: 'We pride ourselves on providing a welcoming, fun, structured and safe environment in which our junior and beginner golfers can flourish.'

Members Barry and Terrie Collingwood drove the GolfMark initiative at the club, which is the ninth in Suffolk to win the award. Through the GolfMark accreditation process the club has now formed official links with schools in the local area and PGA professional, Nick Brown is using Tri-Golf and Golf Extreme coaching to introduce golf to the children.
