Brothers Jonathan and James Spelman teamed up to put the brakes on Swardeston's title challenge as Great Witchingham won by 53 runs at Walcis Park.

The Spelmans claimed nine wickets between them to bowl Swardeston out for 158 in pursuit of a victory target of 212, allowing Horsford and Vauxhall Mallards – who both won – to draw closer to their Norfolk rivals.

Witchingham chose to bat first but struggled to build meaningful partnerships as Sam Arthurton (40) and Willie Lonsdale (49) held the hosts' innings together, without passing the half-century mark.

When Norfolk skipper George Walker bagged his fourth wicket to make it 172 for eight, Witchingham looked unlikely to reach 200, but Jonathan Spelman hit 28no to push the total up to 211 when his team were all out in the 61st over.

Witches captain James Spelman claimed the wickets of Peter Lambert, Jordan Taylor, Michael Parlane and Stephen Gray as Swardeston struggled to 63 for five.

The rot was stopped by 15-year-old Callum Taylor and Walker, who added 62 for the sixth wicket. Taylor, who has spent the week with his Swardeston team-mate Matthew Taylor at the Bunbury Youth Cricket Festival, fell to Jonathan Spelman for 35 and that signalled the beginning of the end for the visitors.

The seamer steam-rollered the Swardeston lower order to finish with figures of five for 27, securing Witchingham's second win of the season.

Vauxhall Mallards won a closely contested match against Bury St Edmunds by four wickets with five balls to spare at Brundall.

Bury lost early wickets after choosing to bat first as Paul Bradshaw and Martin Addison both claimed two victims.

A partnership of 140 between Justin Bishop (87) and Tom Rash (64) changed the complexion of the match as the visitors went on to post 253 for nine from their 66 overs, Bradshaw finishing with three for 50.

Half-centuries from Carl Amos (51) and Matt Plater (55) set Mallards on their way, but when Christiaan Schoeman (27) and Plater were out in the same over, Bury were back in contention at 142 for four.

Needing 80 to win from the last 11 overs with six wickets down, Ali Shearer and Bradshaw combined in an unbroken century partnership to win the match for the hosts in the final over. Shearer finished on 48no from 51 balls, with Bradshaw's 46no coming from 39 deliveries.

Horsford moved back up to second, 14 points behind Swardeston, with an eight-wicket win against bottom side Halstead at Manor Park.

Halstead began confidently, but when 44 for one swiftly became 69 for six, the writing was on the wall.

Chris Brown took three for nine from 15 miserly overs and Luke Caswell also bagged three wickets as Halstead were bowled out for 121 in the 60th over.

Matthew Spenceley was dismissed early in the Horsford reply, but Australians Chris Sabburg and James Wild added 60 for the second wicket. Wild went for 29, but Sabburg cruised to 73no from 71 balls, including 13 fours, as Horsford won in the 23rd over.

Clacton also won on Saturday, with the remaining two games both drawn.
