George Russell's hopes of becoming FIA Formula Three Vice-Champion were cruelly dashed when the Norfolk racer required a fresh engine having damaged his original during free practice for the final round.

This resulted in Russell being penalised for all three races on the fast Hockenheim Circuit in Germany.

'Tough day today receiving 10-place grid penalties for all three races due to an engine change,' promised the local ace who still had to secure third place from Nick Cassidy.

'But, we'll keep pushing.'

Starting the opening race from the final round of the grid, Russell used all of his race craft to ensure that he would add to his points tally and not lose too many points to rival Cassidy.

'P7 from P21 on the grid. Happy with that, good recovery. Same again next race,' added Russell, on a determined drive.

Russell started his Hitech GP-prepared car from 16th on the race two grid and another brilliant performance secured him third place in the series after his rival posted a retirement.

'Mega race today,' said Russell.

'P16 to P6 with fastest lap along the way. Pleased with that one.'

Russell started race three from 15th, and although the race was delayed due to fog, once under way Russell signed his season off with an early retirement secure in the knowledge that third place in the championship was his.

'After a lot of bad luck throughout the season I'm happy with what we achieved as a team,' he said.
