Gary Setchell is urging his King's Lynn Town players to get in Carshalton Athletic's faces if they want to cause another FA Trophy upset this afternoon.

Evo-Stik Division One South high-fliers Lynn have already dumped higher-level Barwell out of the competition after an outstanding performance at The Walks last month.

And Setchell insists his troops will have to deliver a similar display when fellow Step Three outfit Carshalton arrive from Surrey for today's second qualifying round clash.

The Linnets boss, whose side sit second in their Step Four league, said: 'We're going to have to play better than in our last two previous home games. We can't keep getting away with putting in below-par performances.

'Our luck will run out sooner rather than later. We were brilliant at home against Barwell and Coalville but on Saturday against Northwich (Victoria) perhaps not so much and then Tuesday against Gresley we were below par.

'We had a chat at training on Thursday and I said we've got to start getting in teams' faces again and stop them from playing. We've got the players who can do that and I'll be looking for a fast start come 3pm.'

Despite being relatively unhappy with his side's displays of late, Setchell admits he is delighted his troops have not been beaten in 10 games. Their fine run, in all competitions, is in stark contract to troubled Athletic who are languishing near the bottom of the Ryman Premier Division, have replaced their manager and saw a host of players leave after the club's playing budget was cut. However, the Lynn boss still expects another tough match for his side.

Setchell said: 'They play a step higher than us and they've pushed Kingstonian and Whitehawk close recently so they won't come here with any fear. Since the draw was made they've won two games and we know we'll have to play very well to get a result. A victory for them financially would be good so they'll be looking to come here and do well.'

Goalkeeper Danny Gay is cup-tied and will be replaced by Alex Street. Midfielder Pat Bexfield is also ineligible. Richard Bunting should be fit after sustaining a nasty eye injury during Tuesday's 2-2 draw with Gresley while defender Phil Gulliver is rated as 50/50 after missing the match with a groin problem.

New arrival, striker and loan signing Sam Mulready, goes straight into the squad and Setchell insists he is still looking to bring in another player – ideally a ball-playing midfielder – to fill the void left by Rob Hughes' departure.
