Gary Setchell waxed lyrical about his FA Trophy heroes after King's Lynn Town stunned Worksop to book their place in today's second round draw.

The Lynn manager confessed he was lost for words after his players' 'superhuman' display at higher-level Worksop on Saturday saw them return to Norfolk with an outstanding 1-0 victory.

Russell Dunkley's 87th-minute winner saw the Linnets pick up a deserved triumph – their fourth Trophy win, all against sides above them in the non-league pyramid – and Setchell admitted he was running out of superlatives to praise his troops' successes.

He said: 'What a victory, what a game. If anyone wants to talk about passion, commitment and endeavour – at any level – then come and watch King's Lynn play.

'It was absolutely first class. The work-rate was immense. They had a lot of the ball and they're a very good side. They will tear teams apart with their movement, but we stuck to the game plan. We worked our socks off.

'We're buzzing, but the lads will have been stiff yesterday morning. It was an unbelievable performance. It was a superhuman effort. You've got to take your hat off to all 11 of them. They were absolutely first class. I'm so proud of them.

'We know we've beat the teams at home but this was a mammoth task. They beat Chester here – destroyed them – and they're top of the Conference North. This was a mountain. I've got a special group of players here. I'm speechless really.'

The Tigers joined Barwell, Carshalton Athletic and Eastbourne Borough in becoming the latest side to have been on the receiving end of a Trophy upset by Setchell's men.

And they thoroughly deserved their win – in front of what the Lynn boss described as a 'different class' away following – after a brave performance also saw them hit the woodwork three times through Dan Quigley, Phil Gulliver and Ross Watson.

Yet, despite scoring a winner with just three minutes left on the clock, the Linnets' manager insisted he never thought it was going to be one of those days.

'I thought we'd get them back to The Walks and beat them. I was thinking, worst-case scenario, we'll get a replay and we'll have a better chance of winning at home,' said Setchell.

'We were 4/1 underdogs but if you walked into the ground second half there was only one team in it. I thought we would have to ride our luck a little bit at times but we didn't. What can I keep saying? I come out and say when we're bad, but on Saturday we were first class.

'We deserve a big side now. My momentum for the lads was – no disrespect to Worksop – we've come so far in this competition – let's not finish our journey here. Let's go somewhere big.'

Setchell also revealed last night that he has released Pat Bexfield, explaining that 'things didn't work out for him', on his return to The Walks. The utility player only rejoined Lynn in October.
