King's Lynn Town boss Gary Setchell believes his Step Four new boys are on course to keep their back-to-back promotion dream alive well into the new year.

Lynn's sensational start in Evo-Stik Division One South has seen them shock a host of clubs on their way to mounting a strong challenge for a play-off position.

Shane Tolley's brace helped Lynn beat one of their main promotion rivals Stamford 2-1 on New Year's Day.

And now Setchell fully expects his side to reach the end-of-season play-offs as they look to move up to Step Three of the non-league ladder at the first time of asking.

The Lynn boss said: 'We need about another 27 points from 21 games. So we'd be very disappointed if we didn't get to the play-offs now.

'We probably need another 47 or 50 to win the league, and we'll give it a go. We can only do that. 'We haven't given up. Will Coalville have a dip? If they don't, then fair play to them. Will Stamford have a dip? We don't know.

'Maybe the loss against us might make them have a little dip. They've lost their manager too so maybe they'll have a blip.

'But we just need to concentrate on what we're doing and make sure we cement our top-five spot.

'We've also got to make sure we do as best as we can in the cup competitions and we must remember how far we've come in such a short space of time.'

Lynn were written off by many after they moved up from the UCL Premier Division, despite finishing runners-up, to the Northern League.

But time and time again, Setchell's men have defied their critics — especially during a fine FA Trophy run which has seen them reach the last 16 of the prestigious non-league competition.

And they did the same again on Tuesday after coming from 1-0 down to pick up three precious points.

Setchell said: 'The effort and endeavour these players put in week in and week out is second to none.

'It does disappoint you when you go 1-0 down and people jump on their back. But like I've said before I enjoy that because these players come back stronger.

'They keep proving people wrong every single week.'

Lynn sit fourth in the table and could climb to second if they win at least two of their games in hand over second-placed Sutton Coldfield Town.

Runaway leaders Coalville are 10 points ahead of the Midlands side and also, like Lynn, have four games in hand on them.
