Speculation linking Robert Green with a move to Portsmouth heighten still further today when a national newspaper claimed that the Norwich City keeper had headed down to the south coast for transfer talks.

Pompey boss Harry Redknapp appeared to rule out an immediate move for the Canaries star on Thursday when he told reporters: “I am not going down the road.”

But Redknapp has been known to lead the press a merry dance in the past, and with the player's agent Andy Evans having stated his interest in the move it wouldn't exactly come as a major surprise if Green did eventually end at Fratton Park.

Portsmouth have already spent more that £10m on players since the arrival of mega-rich Russian Alexandre Gaydamak as co-owner, but they still have cash more cash to spend and could do with another goalkeeper to provide some top quality competition for current No 1 Jamie Ashdown.

According to the Daily Mirror, Redknapp is hoping to complete a deal with Green over the weekend. But to do that he would need to agree a fee with Norwich first - and it is understood there has still to be any contact between the two clubs over the player.
