King's Lynn Town's fringe players are being urged to use the League Cup to play their way into FA Trophy contention.

A much-changed Linnets side will take on Histon this evening in the second round of the Southern League's knock-out competition. Gary Setchell has promised to shuffle his pack with Saturday's important trip to Nantwich Town in the Trophy just around the corner but still wants those selected to leave him with a selection headache going into the weekend.

'There'll be changes as we've got a lot of tired bodies,' said Setchell.

'People like Lee Smith, who I thought again was great on Saturday, Michael (Clunan) and Lee (Stevenson) will probably get a rest. We will play the real younger players and those who need a game like Jack Friend, Jacek (Zielonka) will play again, Matty Castellan and David Bridges might even get a game.

'It'll be a first team but it will be a very weakened side, although it'll be a side that we try and win the game with. I expect for the players to be playing to want and play on Saturday. The only way they're going to do that at Nantwich is to put on a real decent performance.'

Improving Lynn have moved up to eighth in the table and are unbeaten in four matches – their best run of the season so far. Ryan Fryatt (hamstring) limped off and Saturday will probably not be risked along with Conor Marshall (knee) who missed out against Slough. Kern Miller (hamstring) is fit again but looks set to be saved until the Nantwich test.
