Russell Dunkley and Richard Bunting opened their King's Lynn Town accounts last night during their side's 4-1 friendly win at Peterborough Northern Star.

Jamie Thurlbourne's early free-kick and striker Dunkley's header put Gary Setchell's side 2-0 ahead before the break.

Midfielder Bunting drilled home a third before PNS' Liam Hook pulled one back with the goal of the night - a sensational lob from 30 yards.

Jason Turner added a late fourth following a fine surging run and pass from Dan Quigley.

Linnets boss Gary Setchell said: 'I was pleased with not just their (Dunkley and Bunting) goals but also their performances as well.

'They've gelled in the team and they look like they've been here a season or two - the same goes for Quigley. Him and Bunting bossed the game in midfield. They were the best pair in the UCL by a country mile last year and that's why I wanted them and Dunkley as the spearhead.

'We changed it and went 4-4-2 which gave us more attacking options but we did look more vulnerable at the back. We looked a good side at times, Jamie Thurlbourne in the first half was back to his two-year-ago best, but we've still got to do a bit of work to do in shoring things up and finding a happy medium.

'It's something we've got to be careful of. We'll be on the training pitch tomorrow and we've got three more friendlies so we'll be trying one or two things.'

Lynn posed a genuine attacking threat all night after switching from their recent 4-3-3/4-5-1 formation which saw them suffer narrow friendly defeats to higher-level Cambridge City and Lowestoft Town.

Dunkley and Turner showed some encouraging link-up play and Setchell admitted he was pleased with the former Long Buckby frontman's first 90 minutes in a Lynn shirt.

The Lynn boss said: 'The pleasing thing was we scored some nice goals and Dunkley, in his first full game, looked a real genuine handful.

'Dunkley and Turner up top gives us another option. I don't want to be the type of manager that wants to draw 0-0 or win 1-0 with a set piece, we want to try and play. But we also don't want to be too open at the back.

'It's not managers who make the systems. It's the players who make them because all in all systems will work if your players work hard. At the moment our players are working hard so which ever system we play it's working because of their endeavour.'

Lynn play their next pre-season game at big-spending Spalding United on Saturday.
