The sun shone brightly all day at Great Hockham for, the Lings Honda fourth round of Norfolk & Suffolk Junior Motorcycle Club's Motocross championship.
The NSJMC committee had worked hard to put water down over the preceding days and another dousing before racing began and a few choice spots watered throughout the day kept dust to a minimum and traction high.
With Bayliss Utting (Auto) joining the 65s and mixing in with the lads it was hard to tell he was lacking gears and a few CCs. Rupert Graver took the overall from Freddie Wyard – battling to the wire in the last race of the day. Harley Mower has made the jump to a geared bike and settled in well, taking 10th just behind Jake Rackham.
Once again the 85s combined and with an almost full gate there was action everywhere. Ben Secker is beginning to get used to his BW and a couple of great starts saw him just edge into sixth place ahead of Pat Manning.
All the small wheel action happened behind big wheel winner Max Bickers. He was chased hard by the Small-Wheels of Ben Clarke, Sam Nunn, Josh Peters and Drew Kemp, who had a moment in heat three, and they weren't afraid of the giant frame of Jack Youngs as he chased Bickers.
A full adult gate had to follow in the tracks of Ben Cole, Rob Hales and Matty White. White had the speed and aggression, but a spill in the blazing heat of the afternoon saw his chances of catching Cole slip away.
Team Parker called it a day after youngster Liam seized the big yellow machine in heat two, while dad Wayne and uncle Darrell quit while they could still feel their fingers as the awesome power of the new YZ450s stretched their fitness.
If you thought Kane Fisher rode hard when he was behind you should have seen Harvey Thomas waste no time in charging through the Schoolboy pack.
He took a stone to the hand at the start of the final race of the day and pulled over for a couple of seconds to shake it off, then he was like a wrecking ball as he took no prisoners en route to a fourth-place finish.
Myles Saunders claimed a gate to flag win in that race, holding off Fisher until he crashed and soaking up the pressure of the chasing pack. Aidan Bunning has taken to his new Honda nicely and is picking up the pace as he gets used to the four-stroke. Jake Suskins took the final trophy spot from Adam Durkin on account of is higher finish in the last heat.
The next round of the NSJMC championship is on June 15.
