Canaries midfield Mark Fotheringham could be out of action for up to three months.

City have yet to see the results of the final scan on Fotheringham's ankle, but manager Peter Grant believes the ligament damage and the subsequent fitness rehabilitation work could rule him out until the end of November - meaning he could miss about 17 games.

The injury is similar to that suffered by on-loan midfield Jimmy Smith during the pre-season tour in Holland. The Chelsea youngster is receiving treatment at Stamford Bridge and is not expected back at Norwich until next month.

“Fotheringham is a blow for us and a blow for the kid as well,” said Grant. “It is very similar to Jimmy's, unfortunately.

“He still has his final scan just to tell us how long he will be in the boot for. There is a possibility that will be six weeks, with the boot on, four to six weeks. After that it is him getting the ankle mobilised and everything and training, so you are talking three months possibly.”
