Familiar story as Beccles fail to build on encouraging start

Woodford 29, Beccles 16: Beccles suffered a fifth straight defeat to slip to the bottom of the London 2NE table after failing to build on an encouraging start at fellow strugglers Woodford.

Beccles looked set to put their problems behind them early on as they built up a 9-0 lead with Stuart Murray slotting over two penalties and Adam Cooper adding a drop goal.

They still led at half-time but then Woodford, who also started the season with four defeats, came storming back and had moved into a comfortable lead by the time Reece Ling went over for a late consolation try, converted by Murray.

Beccles' cause was not helped by a number of injuries and unavailabilities while they also lost two more players during the match, with Sam Williamson and Rob Wilson both succumbing to knee problems.
