England senior debut for Chestney

Rising star bowls player Jamie Chestney has been celebrating another career milestone. Still a junior, the Gallow club, Fakenham, player has been selected for his first senior England match.

Rising star bowls player Jamie Chestney has been celebrating another career milestone. Still a junior, the Gallow club, Fakenham, player has been selected for his first senior England match. Along with Norfolk colleagues Mervyn King (Hunstanton BC) and John Ottaway (Wymondham Dell), he will contest the British Isles International Team Championships on June 30 at Wigton BC in Cumbria. King has also been selected by England for the Tri-Series Classic in Australia from July 25-27.

He will play alongside John Rednall (Suffolk) and Brett Morley (Nottinghamshire).

Norfolk's three internationals helped the county to a 130-108 win over Hertfordshire in the Middleton Cup on Saturday at the County Arts club in Norfolk.

Player-manager Brian Taylor led by example, winning 22-12 as Norfolk took 20 of the 22 points at stake.

An unchanged team has been named for the match against Felixstowe on July 8 at Felixstowe.

Norfolk club champions Great Plumstead reached the Durham Centenary Trophy quarter-finals with a 95-74 win over Hunts champion club Warboys White Hart, whose team included a number of Middleton Cup players as well as top international player Vicky Brett.
