The battle for promotion to the top flight of the Empresa Norfolk Women's League is heading for an exciting conclusion.

The four contenders all won their matches at the weekend which left Pelicans II and Harleston Magpies V joint top, with Broadland II a point behind them and Diss a further four points back with a game in hand.

Magpies host Pelicans on Saturday and the winner of that one will take the title. If the game is drawn then Broadland will finish top if they win at Carrow the following weekend. Whatever happens, Broadland know a victory at Langley School will guarantee a top-two finish.

A confident Broadland side beat Watton II on Saturday. They dominated possession from the start and were rewarded with an excellent goal from open play from Tamsin Highfield.

Broadland doubled their lead through Nikki Kent, who had to be withdrawn a couple of minutes later with a facial injury. Catherine Brewster, her replacement, put Broadland further ahead with almost her first touch.

Watton worked hard to stay in the game with keeper Alicia Gregory making a number of good saves but she could do little to prevent Highfield completing the scoring in the final minute of the first half.

Pelicans II stayed top on goal difference thanks to a 4-1 win over Yarmouth II while Magpies won 4-1 at Reepham and Diss kept their outside promotion hopes alive by beating Norwich City V 7-3.

The Premier Division title was decided some time ago, with Norwich Dragons III sealing promotion to the East League. Norwich City III ended up six points behind them after winning their final two matches against Dereham III (2-1) and Dragons IV (5-0).

Sophia Basset and Ellie Hobden scored against Dereham in midweek while Basset netted a hat-trick against Dragons, with Emily Greenway and Amelia Barclay also finding the net.

Lowestoft Railway and Magpies IV drew 2-2 and City IV won 4-1 at Dragons V (Hannah Sangar 2, Kate Houldey, Ellie Hobden) in the other top-flight games.

In Division Two Broadland III were beaten 6-1 by leaders Norwich Dragons V1. Jane Wells (3), Gemma Ballard, Charlotte Knight and Anita Mancini were on target for Dragons while Amelia Anema scored Broadland's consolation.
