Holt's first game since November 20 ended in a narrow defeat. The visitors found themselves 6-0 down after 10 minutes but on the half hour mark Allen reduced the deficit with a penalty of his own.

Holt were hoping to keep the score-line the same up to half-time and to make use of the elements in the second half. But when a five-metre scrum was inadvertently given away Ely accepted the gift by winning it for their inside centre to brush through to score a converted try, giving his side a 13-3 lead.

After the break Holt again reduced the deficit through an Allen penalty but they still could not gain domination against determined opponents. Holt did not help themselves when one of their players was yellow carded late on and Ely added a penalty to their tally before Allen completed the scoring by adding a further three points.
