King's Lynn suffered their first defeat of the 2014 campaign last night - but they snatched a crucial point following a thrilling encounter.

Faced with their toughest test of the season so far, the Stars fell just short of what would have been a memorable victory before eventually being forced to settle for a point from a 47-42 loss. Danish duo Niels-Kristian Iversen and Kenneth Bjerre combined in fine style to ensure the visitors were not left travelling back to Norfolk empty handed as they performed last heat heroics.

In what was a tense encounter throughout, the visitors were hit hard by a controversial exclusion for Iversen in a vital heat 11 and appeared set to miss out on any points.

The Grand Prix star was adjudged to have brought down Wolves man Ty Proctor during a tight first lap - and the hosts took full advantage to leave Lynn playing catch up.

When they conceded a further 5-1 in the penultimate race their hopes of adding to their Elite League points tally looked to be over - yet Iversen and Bjerre exploded from the tapes and held their nerve to ensure their encouraging start to the season continued.

The heatleader duo both impressed throughout the night - combining to briefly put their side ahead with a classy heat six maximum before going on to form a strong top two.

However, despite a a determined effort, skipper Rory Schlein was unable to make any substantial impact from his four rides - and with Danish racer Nicklas Porsing also struggling, much emphasis was placed on the lower order.

Lewis Kerr stepped up to the mark with a strong showing at reserve including a composed win in heat 12, while partner Lewis Rose also made a solid contribution - although both sides' reserves proved evenly matched.

Perhaps the most encouraging performance of the night came from teenage sensation Robert Lambert who was always in the thick of his action on his way to a five point haul.

The British racer stormed to a composed race win in heat seven following a exhilarating battle with Swede Jacob Thorssell - and he came close to preventing Wolves 5-1s in heats 11 and 14 with two breathtaking rides.

Yet despite another promising evening for King's Lynn they could not stretch their winning run to three meetings against a Wolverhampton side renowned for their strength on home soil.

The Stars will now look to get back to winning ways when they host a Belle Vue in mouth-watering clash at the Norfolk Arena tomorrow night.
