Chasing Rainbows

A North Walsham Raiders squad with seven teenagers and only three players over 30 fought hard to come away with a losing bonus point from a 21-14 defeat at the hands of Ipswich YM in the Eastern Counties Shield.

It took the visitors 20 minutes of all out attack to break through for their first converted try, followed by a second some six minutes later.

Late in the half wing Will Michin scored a superb try after weaving his way past five defenders from deep in his own half, Ed Jones converting. Having been reduced to 14 the Raiders conceded a disputed try but fought back and second row Michael Batty worked his way over after some good work by the pack, Jones again converting.

Fakenham continued their unbeaten season by seeing off visitors Shelford III 44-5 to stay five points clear at the top.

Norwich Union won 29-15 at Cambridge Adventurers to keep hold of top spot in the Plate and Norwich Medics did likewise in the Bowl by winning 12-10 at Cantabs II.
