The rapid rise to fame of King's Lynn footballer Dom Dwyer is showing no signs of slowing, after the striker was called in to the MLS All-Star team ahead of a game against Bayern Munich.
The former Norwich City academy prospect is establishing himself as one of the top strikers in the MLS (Major League Soccer) in the United States.
So far this season Dwyer has scored 14 goals in 22 games to help fire Sporting Kansas City to the top of the Eastern Conference of the MLS.
That is more than former Premier League stars such as Jermain Defoe (11 goals in 15 games for Toronto), Robbie Keane (12 in 18 for LA Galaxy) and Clint Dempsey (nine in 12 for Seattle).
It is former England and Tottenham striker Defoe that Dwyer has replaced in the MLS All-Star squad, because of injury, for a game against German giants Bayern at Providence Park in Portland, Oregon, tomorrow night.
He is in the squad alongside the likes of former Arsenal and Barcelona star Thierry Henry and Everton legend Tim Cahill, both now of New York Red Bulls, as well as former Inter Milan and Newcastle United striker Obafemi Martins and USA star Landon Donovan.
'I am excited to play with some of the best players in Major League Soccer and in the world,' Dwyer said of his call-up.
'It should be a memorable week and I look forward to the events, the game and representing MLS.'
Dwyer made global headlines last month when he took a 'selfie' photograph with some Sporting KC fans when celebrating a goal in an MLS game.
The referee in the game didn't take well to the disruption and showed Dwyer a yellow card, which helped the photo to go viral online.
Dwyer had an unsuccessful trial with Championship club Charlton Athletic in January – but with his profile continuing to rise, he could well be in with a better shot of a loan move back to England this winter.
The Norfolk-raised frontman was selected in the first round of the 2012 MLS SuperDraft and scored 26 goals across six competitions last year while splitting time with Sporting Kansas City and the club's USL PRO affiliate Orlando City SC.
He finished the season as the USL PRO top scorer and was named Championship MVP (most valuable player) with four goals in the final.
He then went on to inspire Sporting KC to MLS Cup glory by scoring the match-winning goal in the Eastern Conference Championship.
Dwyer is the only player to appear in all 26 competitive matches for Sporting KC this season and was named MLS Player of the Month in May after scoring goals in four consecutive games.
The match is being broadcast on BT Sport One from 2.30am (UK time) in the early hours of Thursday.
