Banger racing's road to gold kicks off at Swaffham Raceway this Sunday afternoon with the first World Final qualifying round.

The campaign takes in nine rounds, spread over six months and taking in two tracks, the other being Mildenhall Raceway.

The World Final itself takes place at Swaffham on Sunday, August 29 with Shane Cottrill (Wisbech) the reigning champion. Among the in-form drivers going into the meeting are newly-crowned winternational champion Chris Medler (Cawston) and the Norwich pairing of Gary Legrice and Ronnie George.

The Street Stocks have welcomed a big influx of numbers for the new season as drivers seek to take full advantage of being able to compete in a low-budget stock car formula. Defending points champion, Stoke Ferry's Shaun Klyn, will be hoping to get off to a winning start but he'll face a stiff challenge from the likes of winter points champion Noddy Clarke (King's Lynn).

In the open-wheeled Super Stocks, winter champion Gavin Taber (Diss) will be hoping to win the inaugural season-long points title.

Completing a varied mix of banger, stock car and hot road racing are two non-contact classes, the Lightning Rods and Stock Rods. Defending points champion, Lyng's Ian Thomson, and winter champ Brent Tillow (Saxlingham Nethergate) look top contenders in the Ford Sierra based Lightning Rods. Joining them on track again will be a handful of drivers from the 2 Litre Hot Rods.

Racing gets underway at 1.30pm, for further details see www.swaffhamraceway.com
