Last Saturday's soaring temperatures tested the endurance of many club players, but having spent most of the afternoon wearing a helmet, Dereham A's David Lake felt the heat more than most.

The 16-year-old stood in as wicketkeeper and watched from under his helmet as league leaders Hayley East Anglia amassed 381 from their 45 overs.

Undaunted by the prospect of chasing that huge total, Lake donned his protective hat again and batted throughout the Dereham innings, recording his maiden century and finishing unbeaten on 120 as his side replied with 234 for six.

He is the winner of this week's Hansells/EDP24 Player of the Week award and receives a £20 voucher to spend at Pilch Sports in Norwich.

It was a good weekend for batsmen and other nominations were received for Thetford A's Usman Iqbal who hit his second 50 of the season; Hingham Pirates captain Steve Guy, who posted the first century of his career on Sunday; and Hemsby's Peter Tilbrook, who made 135no, including nine sixes and 13 fours.
