Dan Zelos entered the third meeting of 2011 in the Lewis Hamilton and Bernie Ecclestone-backed Formula Kart Stars (FKS) Championship at Glan Y Gors targeting a trophy having come so close in the season curtain-raiser at Rowrah in Cumbria – and he left with his mission well and truly accomplished.

After impressing around the same demanding and undulating North Wales circuit in fellow national series Super One a week earlier, the 13-year-old Northgate High School pupil did likewise in the 46-strong MSA British Cadet class.

Qualifying on the opening day yielded a promising sixth, Zelos' two heat races brought a race-one shunt from behind and a carburettor problem in the next – while a fastest lap that outstripped the race winner was consoling, as he turned torrential conditions into a superb podium, before finishing eighth in the day's final.

Day two saw Zelos come into his own again, turning seventh in qualifying into fifth and fourth in his heats, before winding up an excellent fourth in the weekend's climax – all of which elevated him to seventh in the title standings.

'It was my first trophy in FKS, and it felt brilliant to achieve it – we were really, really pleased,' said the Prima Racing ace. 'I'm hoping to get a few more over the remainder of the season.'
