Lowestoft Town boss Ady Gallagher was 'thrilled' with his side's display as the Blues took the derby honours on Easter Monday at Leiston.

The victory was marred by allegations of racial abuse directed at former Trawlerboy Ashlee Jones whilst Harry Barker was allegedly assaulted in the bar afterwards by a Leiston player.

Both clubs have released statements promising to conduct thorough investigations into both incidents (see full story here).

But, concentrating on the football, Gallagher was delighted with his side's display as goals from Jake Reed and Nico Cotton put a huge dent in Leiston's hopes of making the play-offs.

'I was thrilled with the performance - the lads have always shown when their backs are against the wall that they can pull a result out the bag,' said the Blues chief. 'I thought we were good value for it as well.

'I know how difficult it is to be consistent in this division and to play yourself into one of those play-off spots. Since February it hasn't happened for them (Leiston) - they started the season like a house on fire but they haven't been able to live up to their reputation.'

The victory was particularly sweet given 48 hours earlier Lowestoft had gone down to a 3-1 defeat against Staines when the Blues were only able to field the bare 11 players with no substitutes.

It is a situation Gallagher insists can't be allowed to happen again.

'It can't happen again – the chairman (Gary Keyzor) took a lot of responsibility for what happened on Saturday - it was embarrassing,' said Gallagher, whose side complete their league campaign at home to Harrow Borough on Saturday (kick-off 3pm). 'It's a miracle that the situation has not come up before - I think it's only the way we have managed the players that has stopped that happening before now.'
