Crusaders maintained their Eastern Counties Division One status at the weekend when a try two minutes from the end of a dramatic final match against Ely levelled the game at 16-all.

They would have won, but Rob Loone, who had earlier slotted two penalties, saw his penalty come out off an upright. Crusaders had taken an early lead with a penalty. Ely came back with a penalty and a Joel Scott try to lead 8-6 at half-time.

Crusaders, who had lost Byrne and Cullum to injury in the first half, suffered a further setback when hooker Scott was sinbinned. Ely capitalised when their forwards drove over for Chris Day to touch down. A drop goal increased the lead to 16-6 leaving Crusaders staring relagation in the face with 16 minutes to go before their late burst was rewarded by tries from Peter Blinkhorne and Theo Elliot.

Now Crusaders turn their attention to Sunday's Norfolk Junior Cup final against Swaffham.
