Swaffham secured county silverware for the first time in their history yesterday when they comprehensively beat Crusaders to lift the Norfolk Junior Cup.

The visitors went into the match as underdogs, with their opponents playing at a higher level, but quickly took the game by the scruff of the neck, scoring all their points in the first half.

Swaffham took the lead with an early Daniel Spencer penalty and added to their advantage midway through the first half when fullback Alex Griffiths ran through almost unopposed after an interception, with Spencer adding the extras.

Four minutes before the break it was 15-0 as Ryan Bigland powered over after good work from the forwards and a Spencer penalty just before the break provided the icing on the cake.

Crusaders applied plenty of pressure in the second half but Swaffham held firm in front of a good contingent of visiting supporters to secure cup glory after narrowly missing out on promotion to Eastern Counties Division One.
