Celebrations have been put on hold at Cromer – despite the vital victory which places the outcome of the Sterry Cup race back in their hands.

The Crabs needed to win Saturday's encounter with Blofield to go back to the top of the Anglian Combination table with a one-point advantage and one game to play.

Although a comfortable 3-0 victory meant it was mission accomplished, no-one was getting carried away at the prospect of retaining the title they won by a 14-point margin ahead of Blofield last season.

'There was no celebrating after the game. Nothing was won on Saturday but it will be if and when we win on Thursday. That's the way I want the lads to look at it,' said Cromer manager Chris Wigger.

Saturday's win destroyed third-placed Blofield's remaining chances of title success and saw the Crabs move one point ahead of morning leaders Acle, who did not have a game on Saturday and play their final match away to St Andrews tomorrow.

'Acle have got a job to do on Tuesday when they play St Andrews and if they win we know we have got to win on Thursday when we are at home to Loddon.'

He added: 'Loddon are a very robust team with some young players and some experienced players. We certainly don't want to be giving them any chances from set-pieces. They are one of the more organised team in the league and they are always very well prepared. They are capable of beating anyone on their day.'

Wigger is hoping that the Cabbell Park pitch will be fit to stage Thursday's encounter (7.30 ko) after Saturday's match had to be switched to Holt because of waterlogging.

On Saturday Cromer took the lead midway through the first period with David Harewood converting a penalty after the lively Dale Wilton had been brought down.

'Getting the first goal was crucial because it really helped to settle the nerves. It came at a good time,'said Wigger.

With half-time approaching Scott Woodcock fired home a cross from a tight angle at the far post and Antoni Fawkes hit a third from close range in the dying minutes.

'Our goalkeeper Nathan Pauling barely had a save to make throughout the game,' added Wigger.

In Division One Bradenham Wanderers ended their campaign on a high note as a Les Tufts hat-trick and a Thomas Spalding strike helped them to a 4-0 win at Corton.

Goals from Kevin Whitred, Matthew Hudson and Ian Bulley enabled Hindringham to sign off with a 3-0 home win over mid-table rivals Hellesdon.

Reepham secured runners-up position with an emphatic 4-0 home win over champions Dersingham Rovers, courtesy of a Stephen Drake hat-trick and a strike from Kevin Winkworth.
