Liam Walsh will return to the ring in March having banished the memories of his aborted shot at a world title.

The Cromer boxer was due to face Ricky Burns last month, but suffered back injuries in a car crash in November, but will now share a Wembley bill – dubbed Rule Britannia by promoter Frank Warren – with the Scotsman on March 16 .

Walsh will defend his Commonwealth super-featherweight title against Canadian challenger Logan McGuinness – who has won 19 and drawn one of his pro fights.

Walsh has a perfect record after 13 outings and Everett believes he is still perfectly on course to get to the very top of the fight game.

'He is back in light training and is ready to step it up,' said Everett. 'Mentally it was a bad knock to miss out on that fight, but as we all say, he has to tell himself that was then and this is now – we have to move on.

'To be the best you can is what everybody's goal is from being a young lad and being a world champion was within his grasp, it was one fight away, and that is massive.

'But if he lives up to the talent he has got that chance will come again, maybe not with Ricky Burns, but he has definitely got the makings of a world champion – he has just got to keep working.'

While most of McGuiness' outings have been in Canada, he did have an early appearance at the Norwich Showground in October 2008, when he beat the much-travelled Sid Razak on points in only his third outing.

'He is the number one contender, he is unbeaten, and he is somebody we have been looking at for a while, ' said Everett.

'He is an all action fighter and a good puncher.

'Liam was involved in a fight of the year when he beat Paul Appleby and this could be a close contender for the second.

'We have watched him, we have seen what he is all about and it has the makings of a great contest.'

The Wembley Arena bill is headed by WBO world lightweight champion Burns' unification showdown against tough Mexican IBF world champion Miguel Vazquez, while Nathan Cleverly, George Groves and Dereck Chisora are also on the undercard.
