Commercial Fisheries: Anglers who braved the cold get their reward
Blackdyke
The brave anglers that visited Blackdyke trout fly fishery this week were rewarded with some excellent sport. Plenty of trout were biting – cats whisker and damsels being the best lures. Trevor Hagger was top rod this week with 15 on Thursday. From around the aerators the lake is free of ice at the moment and won't completely freeze so there's always somewhere to fish. Come on down – the fish are fighting hard at the moment.
A date for your diary – Eyebrook tackle shop will be here on Saturday, February 23. Come check out some of the new tackle and stock up on your new season's sundries.
The Airflo Bank Masters takes place on Sunday, February 24 – there are still places available and you can enter the competition at www.iaindarrflyfishing.co.uk or pick up an entry form at the lodge.
Larkwood
Fishing at Larkwood had been slower this week until one of our regulars worked out where the fish had gone. In the freezing weather fish had moved from within a foot of the surface to 15 feet down, so the order of the day is a fast intermediate or a slow sink line with a small lure or marabou damsel retrieved slowly.

Tuesday was an interesting day; with a temperature of minus 6 in the morning, fishing was almost impossible with the fly line freezing in the rod rings. I could only look on in amazement out of the lodge window as a group of grown men had a snowball fight to keep themselves warm. Boys will be boys.
Rocklands
Given the recent volume of snow and continuous freezing temperatures, the lakes are currently frozen and we are closed for fishing.
We are hopeful that, as the weather is set to warm, we will be thawed by next week.
