Chelmsford 15, Lowestoft & Yarmouth 20: Scrum-half Russ Chapman scored all L&Ys points in a gutsy London 2N win against a tough and well drilled Chelmsford side determined to halt a losing streak. He bagged a first half try and five second half penalties as L&Y struggled to dominate their opponents amid freezing temperatures.

Chelmsford scored the first points with a penalty, and after Chapman missed a chance in reply in kind, the home side's Dan Boardley chased a speculative kick into the deadball area, where a try was awarded despite his not controlling the touchdown.

L&Y battled back with a fine break by James Gee, only for a driving maul to be stopped inexplicably by the referee as they were heading over the line. However, from the resulting lineout, Chapman seized the ball, doubled back to the blind side and raced untouched to the corner. After some great defence, notably from captain and man of the match Marc Thomas, L&Y were happy to make the break only three points behind. Dave Tiueti and Scott Nelson both began to make good use of the slope with some searching kicks and the pressure told as Chelmsford lost their wing to the sinbin and their scrum-half to injury.

Three penalties by Chapman gave L&Y a six points lead. But Chelmsford reclaimed the lead when their Kiwi fly-half skipped through for a fine solo seven-pointer. L&Y dug deep and a Baxter charge through midfield brought another infringement which Chapman coolly converted before adding another penalty three minutes from time.
