CEYMS A thrashed their D side 10-0 to consolidate third position in Premier A of the Grant Matthewson Norwich and District League – six points clear of Gothic A with two games in hand.

In a very entertaining and sporting match, Gothic A just scraped home against CEYMS B 7-3. Philip Logsdon was the difference between the teams, taking all his singles for Gothic. Chris Bensley for CEYMS, after a long-awaited comeback, was playing David Henderson and Steven Howlett for the first time after a 33-year break from the top division. He showed he still had the skills, defeating Howlett 12-10 in the fifth, although he lost out to Henderson in four close sets.

The match between Premier B top two teams, Electricity and UEA B, ended all square, with Electricity having to win the doubles to keep the students from closing the gap at the top of the table. Jamie McIntosh was unbeaten on the night for Electricity while Long Zhang and Lewis Ewers won a brace of singles for the UEA.

Hellesdon keep up the pressure on the top two following a 10-0 thumping of two-man St Faiths Centre A. Firstline Factors and Wensum G played out a titanic drawn match that finished past 11pm. In Division 1, Missionaries lost to Foxwood E 4-6. Foxwood C lost to Foxwood D 3-7 – although this top of the table clash turned out to be a bit of an anti-climax, with only two singles going past the three-set mark. Andrew Leeds, with impressive serving and strong attacking on both wings, and Stuart Cooper turned in comfortable maximums as the D team did the double.

In their Division Four clash the draw between Shelly Telly and Wensum L was a marathon event.

Shelly Telly won the first two matches through Colin Jenkinson and Michelle Savage against Kate Brocklesby and Aubrey Willmott before Wensum youngsters Roanna Brocklesby and Dominic Stokes struck back with comfortable three-set wins over Di Cunningham and Ruth Bullard. In two exciting five-set doubles the spoils were shared. Jenkinson beat Willmott to put Shelly Telly back in front and then Savage got a maximum, beating Rosanna for the first time, to put them two games in front. There was another five-set thriller between Bullard and Kate Brocklesby with a tense fifth set the difference between a win and a draw for the home team. Brocklesby held her nerve when the match went to deuce and just pipped Bullard 13-11. Stokes and Cunningham battled for the spoils – with Stokes the victor to secure the draw and two points for the Wensum team.
