Another grand prix came and went with Caterham unable to overtake Marussia for this season's coveted 10th place in the constructors' championship – but the gap on track between the two teams was still emphasised.

The Hingham-backed duo comfortably out-qualified the Marussias of Jules Bianchi and Max Chilton for Sunday's Italian Grand Prix at Monza, before the Caterham pair finished ahead in the race – albeit the quartet all coming home a lap behind the rest of the grid.

Bianchi's 13th on the second weekend of the season in Malaysia keeps Caterham's rivals in 10th place – and on course for the millions of pounds in prize money that promises at the end of the season.

It was not until the final race of 2012 that Caterham secured 10th last season, a position they have achieved in all three of their campaigns since arriving on the grid in 2010.

And with seven races to run, this year's task also looks like to go to the wire.

'When the blue flags started coming out we had to manage the traffic and that obviously cost us more time, but our pace meant we were able to cover off our nearest competitors one–stop strategy and that was a the main target,' said Charles Pic, who came home 17th after being out-qualified by his team-mate Giedo van der Garde.

'We've shown over the last few races we definitely have a pace advantage over them, and we have enough races left to keep fighting for 10th in the championship.

'Next we go to Singapore, which is going to be an incredibly busy race off-track, and on track I think our car will be suited to the heat and layout of the track. After a quiet race here it'll be good to have a few more battles.'
