The Carousel Riding Club held its annual one-day-event at Sussex Barns – a week after it hosted the Burnham Market Horse Trials.

A popular event as usual, organisers were very encouraged by the turnout.

Club secretary Diane Smith said: 'We had an excellent 98 competitors who enjoyed the wonderful going and lovely surroundings. It was a long day and CRC would like to thank all the fence judges and helpers across all three phases, without whom this event could not have gone ahead.'

In the first class of the day, the restricted novice, Zoe Robertson and Toto claimed top honours with Leah Fowler and Russell claiming the open novice class. Leah and Russell also took home £50 worth of vouchers to spend in the Horse Requisite Saddlery in Newmarket for their achievements.

Young rider and regular Carousel member Sophie Mann made up for a disappointing start with new partner Danesfort Boy, after winning the Intro A class at the weekend. On her former ride, Rush On, Sophie has had a fantastic season winning the BE80(T) at Great Witchingham International back in July, but until recently had not formed as strong a partnership with Danesfort.

This looks set to change after winning at Burnham and taking home a 90-bottle fully assembled wine rack sponsored by Hahn – unfortunately the high schooler won't be able to take advantage for a few more years. The Intro B class went to Amy George and Rathcline Cori.

In class four Kate London and Greevale Legacy took top honours with Claire Rivett and Sparky claiming the open, the last class of the day.

Kelly Aldous and High Garth High Flyer are just back from their first international overseas event at Ballendenisk in Ireland.

The pair have upped their game once more, having finished 19th in the CIC 3***. What is more exciting is that in an international field they were lying third after dressage behind Pippa Funnell, and Kevn McNab from Australia who was sitting in first place. A very unfortunate steering problem on the cross-country course gave them 20 penalties for running past element B of fence four, but other than that they took all the direct routes on a challenging course, which saw several run-outs and falls.

The pair then had two unfortunate poles down on a big show jumping track, but it was a fantastic experience as they continue their career together and gain experience at this level.

Norfolk-born Kelly has had High Garth High Flyer for three years. When she bought him he had done very little jumping, but they have worked hard together and are slowly becoming a great partnership.
