This is proving to be a long couple of weeks for me as I'm not a great watcher of games.

I am desperate for my suspension to finish. But with Tuesday's scheduled home game against Sheffield being rearranged due to them needing to play a League Cup clash my ban has gone into a second week.

I should have been available for the home game against Newcastle Town on Saturday but I'm not eligible now until we visit Romulus on Tuesday.

The only real positive I can take from my enforced break is the rest I will get. The few knocks I have will clear up and I'm sure my groin, which I've got an on-going problem with, will be happy to have a breather.

Back to action, on Saturday the boys travelled to Gresley for what we were all aware was going to be a really tough game. With the hosts just outside of the play-off places we also knew it was a great opportunity to make the gap between us and another contender for a top-five spot even bigger.

This served as great motivation for the lads as I thought that apart from a 20-minute second-half spell we bossed the game and more than deserved the three points. I think we have been really good on the road this season and this was no different.

The first-half display was superb. Every single player played their part and we took the lead through Dunks (Dunkley) after some good work from Spriggsy (Spriggs). Our goal came after we missed some good chances so it was important to take the lead when we did.

As a spectator it was good to watch and we made light work in the first half of what looked like a tricky surface. We didn't start the second as well but were still unfortunate to concede an equaliser.

After this the game became a bit scrappy but we kept pressing and finally got our reward with a great strike in the last minute. Jordy (Jordan Yong) never stops attacking, he epitomises the modern-day full-back and I thought his goal was top drawer.

The boys were buzzing in the changing room after the game and rightly so. I have a feeling this could be a vital win come the end of the season.

With 25 league games under our belt, and us being in a really strong Evo-Stik Division One South position, we are all only too aware of the talk about us cementing our place in the play-offs. But as a squad we will just be taking each match as it comes.

Our aim has to be to push league leaders Coalville as far as we can and put together another long run of wins which we are capable of. You never know what is possible and ourselves and the other teams in the top five have to all be thinking the same.

If it's not possible to catch them, then every team will be wanting that second place. I believe we have given ourselves a great chance of finishing in it and the mentality from everybody within the changing room is to try and win every game be it home or away.

The gaffer (Gary Setchell) has recently had the chance to draft in a couple of the reserve lads. Bilesy (Luke Biles) and Shaun (Stocker) have been involved in a few squads and the biggest compliment I can pay them is that the gaffer wouldn't involve them if he didn't think they could do a job on a match day if needed.

Lads like these are the future of the club and as they both play in my position I will keep a close eye on them. Both the boys know that they can ask not just the senior players but all of us anything if they need to and we are all here to help them progress.

This weekend sees us welcome Newcastle. We know from playing previous so-called lesser teams, or at least teams lower down the table, that we will need to be at our best to earn another victory.

If we can make it six league wins from six in 2013 we will be well on our way to putting together a run like I mentioned we needed earlier. I will be back in the stands cheering the lads on to hopefully another three points, so see you at The Walks.
