There has certainly been a lot more activity off the pitch than on it this past week.

Just like most of the non-league games up and down the country our matches against Kidsgrove at The Walks (Saturday) followed by our trip to play at Romulus (Monday) both fell foul to the relentless snow we have had lately.

So the main talking point of the past seven days has been Spriggsy (Steve Spriggs) and his decision to leave us. It was always inevitable that somebody from a higher league was going to come sniffing around before too long. Wingers who consistently score goals are hard to come by and despite his lack of experience at that level (Blue Square North) Boston United have taken a gamble on him.

I'm not so sure it's a massive gamble mind as I'm convinced he will score wherever he plays. The goals he scored during our FA Trophy run would suggest this.

I for one am gutted he has opted to move. Firstly, from a football view he was a really important player for us. In any game he was a great outlet. Secondly, on a personal level, I have such a lot of time for him. From the moment I signed we got on and the changing room will be a lot quieter place without him. You couldn't always see the little so and so but you could always hear him.

I have read a few things regarding where his departure leaves the team. People have said he has jumped ship and left us short. He was important, as I have mentioned, but as a group we have to move on. The gaffer (Gary Setchell) may look to replace him or look at the squad he has put together. With the attacking players we have I am sure there is enough quality for us not to be affected.

On another positive note I won't have to listen to his (Spriggs) moaning and there might be a few headlines up for grabs for the rest of us. I think his name must have rhymed with more words better than most others. I have spoke to Spriggsy since he agreed to leave and I know he thought long and hard about the decision. He does love the club but you just don't know if the chance to play at that level will come around again. I know all the lads and management wish him well.

On a more positive note the speculation surrounding JT (Jamie Thurlbourne) was just that. His decision to turn down Wisbech Town has been really positive news as although he hasn't played as much football as he would have liked to of late he is an important member of our squad. J's quality is undoubted, he has one of the best left foots about, and I'm sure he has a big part to play in the remainder of our season.

Elsewhere, just because the games have been off it doesn't mean our hard work has stopped. We have been in training and getting worked as normal. We all appreciate the fact that fitness levels must be kept up. The bad weather has come at a handy time regarding a few injuries about the squad. It's been a welcome break for me as I have had more of a problem of late with an on-going hip injury which affects my groin and Dunks (Russell Dunkley) has had a recurrence of his hamstring injury.

Looking ahead we have a massive game on Saturday at the league leaders Coalville. While I think we have played arguably better sides in the division they are without question the most consistent. Where we and everybody else have been guilty of dropping points, where we perhaps shouldn't, Coalville have not. They keep on picking up three points so we know we are going to have to be at our best to win.

I think if we have aspirations of catching them we need to beat them. It was a great game under the lights when we beat them 3-1 in October and we will be doing all we can to make it become six points we've taken off them.
