It seems forever since my last column and by the time this latest one is in the paper the hectic festive programme will have been completed.

Firstly I would like to hope all the supporters and everyone who reads this had a Merry Christmas and a happy New year. I think 2012 was a good year for the club and I hope 2013 can be an even better one with possible back-to-back promotions.

We have had our fair share of rain recently and a couple of fixtures have fell foul of the weather, starting with the visit of Sheffield to The Walks (December 22).

This was the most surprising of the postponements because both sides were at the ground and more than happy to play. The pitch was perfectly playable according to the referee. However, one of the linesmen thought it was dangerous to operate down their touchline.

This left everyone. except the three officials baffled, resulting in Sheffield climbing back onto their bus and us training on a wet Saturday afternoon.

One game that did beat the elements was the Boxing Day trip to Brigg. I had a belly full of turkey as I turned the computer on and found out it was 135 miles from my house. Surely that's the longest away trip of the season out of the way?

As far as the game goes, it was a wet one. With Brigg commenting via Twitter on our great away following I don't think the game was ever going to be off. We drew 1-1, which was probably a fair result, but the main talking point was the red card for Streaky (Ryan Fryatt).

In the heat of the moment a player doesn't always think about the yellow they had already received earlier in the match and I think this was the case for Ryan. However, I do think the challenge didn't merit the straight red it got. It was harsh and we will now be without him for more than the one game two yellows would have resulted in. This will be a blow as he has been exceptional for us all season.

Back to the game, after a below-par first half display the lads showed unbelievable character again to come from behind, especially after going down to 10 men. We carved out the better chances throughout the game and were good value for our point.

The latest postponement was for Saturday's trip to Carlton. Again, according to Twitter this game was never going to go ahead. So training it was.

We can look at the postponements two ways; firstly the lads are fresh having played just two of the four Christmas fixtures, but on the other hand we already have games in hand and with good cup runs we might have a backlog of matches come the end of the season. Its not ideal but as player I prefer to play games rather than train which will be the case if this was to happen.

I've written this column before what is arguably the biggest game over the festive period, Stamford at home (New Year's Day). It was never a must-win game but with all the lads aware of the fact our recent league form has not been good enough, I hope we have picked up the three points when you read this.

With fans spending their hard earned money following and supporting the team we know as players the sacrifices we need to make over Christmas. Playing football this time of year is something all the lads are used to and sacrificing that bottle of beer or the extra bowl of trifle (my personal favourite) is a small price to pay when getting paid to do something you love. I personally love playing this time of year as its when a lot of the big games seem to be played.

One of the lads had an extra special Christmas, Danny Gay got engaged to his missus Gemma. On behalf of everyone I would like to congratulate them both. Good luck Mrs D!
