Last week saw the boys play two cup games with one in particular leaving everyone connected with the club very happy.

First up was the League Cup where Stamford were the visitors to The Walks. The gaffer (Gary Setchell) used this match as a chance to give the lads who haven't been involved in previous weeks minutes on the pitch. He also had a look at half a dozen reserve team lads who hopefully will be a big part of the club's future. I was given a welcome rest and I have to say it was an absolute pleasure to watch the football all the young lads played.

To a man they all did themselves credit. Although we lost 3-1, I'm sure the gaffer would have taken plenty of positives from the performance. I kept close tabs on Shaun (Stocker) who plays in a similar position to me and for somebody so young I thought he was different class.

As I said they were all great and I'm sure they will all be knocking on the door to the first team in the not to distant future. After that, all the lads were in Thursday for training. This proved to be a very useful session – which I will touch on later.

The one big surprise of the evening was the weigh-in for Jay (Jason) Lee upon his return from Mexico. I won't go into numbers but he came back under the weight the gaffer set. I thought he didn't stand a chance!

On to Saturday and the big one. We travelled to Worksop knowing the size of the challenge that we had in front of us, but confident we could cause an upset. The support we received, as ever, for this match was tremendous – it felt like a home game – and I for one am running out of ways to express how good it is.

After the first 15 minutes I thought we were a good match for them and if any side deserved to go into the break with a lead it was us. After reassuring words from the management at half-time we totally bossed the second 45. To a man everyone was outstanding. I think anybody watching would have thought we were the side from a higher league; we out played them and more importantly out battled them. We wanted it more.

We finally got our reward with just minutes to go. Spriggsy (Spriggs) had a shot parried and as all good strikers do, Dunks (Dunkley) was there to finish the rebound. Even with stoppage time left the result never felt like it was in doubt. Having said that Peds (Street) – who in all fairness didn't have a great deal to do – pulled off a fantastic save, reminding everybody of his undoubted quality.

There were great scenes on the whistle. It's a massive buzz to be able to celebrate with the fans after the game. We're all in this together. Win, lose or draw. Our fans created an atmosphere that drove us on. We played like the home side because it sounded like we were at The Walks.

There was a great vibe after the game as well. We all had a few beers on the coach and there was even some live entertainment laid on. Some not so bad but some shocking. We couldn't get Quigz (Quigley) off the mic. He sang his signature tune which I've heard so many times, Seven Days by Craig David, followed by Oasis' Wonderwall. He murdered them both. All credit to him, though, I guess.

I touched on the training session before the game earlier. It's nights like these that people don't see. Games are often won with tactics and the gaffer, Neil (Fryatt) and Rossi (McNeil) got those spot on.

We worked hard on how they wanted us to play when we had the ball because the shape of the team was slightly different. I thought we executed the tactics given to us superbly. The team spirit we are building is fantastic. It's going to be invaluable if we're going to be successful this season.
