You get out of football what you put into it and this was reflected by the six points we picked up last week.

Both results, the home win over Brigg Town (3-2) on Tuesday and the comfortable away victory at Mickleover Sports on Saturday (3-1) were pleasing for different reasons.

Our triumph over Brigg highlighted the fighting spirt of the side while Saturday's three points came from what I felt was a really good team performance. For me, we controlled the game from the first to the last whistle.

Last week's midweek win wasn't as straight forward as ours at the weekend but as always the three points were just as satisfying.

After a bright opening to the game we found ourselves two down after a defensive mix-up and then not putting enough pressure on the ball outside our own box, which is criminal at any level, to allow a free strike at goal.

It was important to get one back before half time and along with a few choice words from the gaffer (Gary Setchell) and the introduction of Dunks (Russell Dunkley) really helped change the game for us.

The big man was such a handful during the whole of the second half and you could see their defenders were scared at the sight of him. Russ makes a huge difference for us because he gives every single one of us an outlet ball which is invaluable.

It's vital to mix things up in football, the key is to not become too predictable. In my opinion we were just about good value for the three points, or cherries as we call them, in the end.

Before our trip to Derbyshire on Saturday we then had a new arrival in the camp. The gaffer signed goalkeeper Danny Gay from AFC Sudbury.

After meeting him for the first time at the weekend he seems like another good lad and I think he will bring more experience and become another character around the changing room. He was certainly vocal on and off the pitch at Mickleover which was good to hear.

I did speak to Peds (Alex Street) on Thursday night and I have to admit I did feel for him. I'm sure any decision made was ever harder as Peds is a really popular member of the team.

I personally have loads of time for him and have really got on with him since signing at the start of the season. He is a top man. And I'm sure he will keep improving as a keeper, and he's a very good one already, by playing for us and Wisbech Town this season.

As I mentioned earlier, Danny looked solid at Mickleover, but I would certainly put a wager on us being involved in matches with more penalties for and against than any other team in the country this season. It seems like we have at least one a game at the moment!

Spriggsy (Steve Spriggs) dispatched both of them on Saturday (eventually) which brings me to our third goal. It was just a poacher's finish really from Watto (Ross Watson). Haha! And I'll say no more than that.

We're in just the once this week for training. As I'm writing this on Monday night I can't be certain what's in store for training on Wednesday. But I will be prepared to pack my running spikes for the Setch Athletics Club - it's a safe bet on how training will go.

Looking ahead, this weekend sees the club's first match in the FA Trophy for a few seasons. The tie we have been given hasn't been exactly kind with Barwell being a Step Three side and one that seems to, like us, have had a really good start to the season.

One things the fans can count on - and hopefully realise by now - is we will have a real go and give 100pc and see where it takes us. So we hope for a really good crowd and atmosphere. Our 12th man is important. See you all at The Walks.
