UEA City of Norwich coach Dave Calleja has called on his squad of swimmers to fufil their potential at the National Championships in Sheffield next week.

He said: "We have made some radical changes to the coaching programme during the past 18 months and this will be the acid test.

"Last year we returned from the National Championships with five medals, this year our target is 20 medals and considerably more finalists than of any year in the recent history of the club.

"We have every faith that the swimmers now have the conditioning and the confidence to pull it off."

The fortnight of competition, which begins on Tuesday, at Ponds Forge, is the culmination of many months of hard work with the cumulative swimming distances of the squad varying from 40,000m to 70,000m per week.

Each swimmer to represent the Penguins has achieved a National Qualifying Time, which already puts them in the top 25 swimmers in the country for their respective age groups.
