The Carter Cup committee have been asked to investigate the eligibility of a player – following a shock result in the semi-finals.

Brooke, one of the inaugural members of the Carter Cup in 1969 but who had never reached a semi-final before, looked to have beaten Swardeston from the East Anglian Premier League.

In a game reduced to 35 overs per side, due to the inclement weather, Swardeston – who play a level above the Norfolk Alliance Premier Division newcomers – batted first and made 236 all out from exactly 35 overs. Peter Lambert top scored with 52 while Tom Nudd finished up with figures of 3-31.

In reply, Brooke started slowly but a match-winning partnership of 148 between Mike Jones and Scott Palombo helped secure victory. Jones smashed 10 fours and five sixes in an excellent 87 with Palombo – himself finding the boundary on 10 occasions – notching 72.

Brooke finally reached their target with 17 balls to spare to win by three wickets.

The result is now under investigation though, a statement confirming: 'The Carter Cup committee met on Monday evening to discuss an allegation that an ineligible player had played in the game on Sunday. The matter has been discussed, we have not yet made a decision, a decision will be made in the next 48 hours.'

The other semi-final between EAPL duo Norwich and Vauxhall Mallards was abandoned due to wet weather at Postwick. The game is now scheduled for July 26.

Stow reached their first ever (Bob Carter) NACO Cup final with a win over local rivals North Runcton. They will battle Horsford in the fight to land the silverware.

Runcton, batting first, were restricted to 153-8 off 40 overs with captain Keith Thompson taking 3-20. Mark Skipper (51) top-scored for Runcton. In reply, Will Denny scored 59 as Stow reached their target to win by six wickets.

In the other semi-final, Horsford's Stephan Marillier hit an astonishing 188 not out – the highest ever individual score in any of the Carter/NACO competition's history as the home team raced to 293-4. In reply, Fakenham put up a valiant effort to reach 235-6 to lose by 58 runs.

Sprowston won the relegation match in the Bob Carter NACO Cup loser's semi-final.

Lowestoft, batting first, made 71-8 and in reply Sprowston reached their target to win by seven wickets in a match reduced to 20 overs per side.

The other relegation match between Ashmanhaugh & Barton Wanderers and EAPL outfit Great Witchingham fell foul of the weather.
