Telford provided one of Gary Setchell's greatest days as a player – now he hopes they do the same as a manager.

The King's Lynn Town boss has fond memories of the Shropshire non-league giants after scoring the winner against them for Kettering Town in the 2000 FA Trophy semi-final.

And after landing the Blue Square Premier Bucks at home in yesterday's second round draw of this season's competition, Setchell is hoping his own Trophy heroes can create another unforgettable experience on December 15.

The Lynn boss said: 'It's a brilliant draw. It shows how far we've come in the last three years to be playing a Conference club at The Walks. The players deserve it, the supporters deserve it, the chairman (Keith 'Buster' Chapman) deserves it – everyone does because it's been a massive journey.

'There could easily be more than 2,000 people at The Walks and if the fans give it everything you just never know what could happen.

'I have great memories of Telford. I scored the winner for Kettering to get us to Wembley and it was one of the best days in my career as a player – and my life. I'm hoping it's an omen. I'd like to repeat it and then enjoy what would be one of my best days as a manager.'

Telford, like Lynn, have been reformed after encountering financial difficulties and will arrive in Norfolk, managed by former Tottenham and Sheffield Wednesday winger Andy Sinton, as fan-owned AFC Telford United.

They currently sit 13th in Blue Square Premier – three tiers above Setchell's Step Four side – and last played King's Lynn during the 2008/09 season, before the original Walks' outfit were wound up in the High Court.

Setchell, who will watch Telford play Barrow next Tuesday, said: 'They're a non-league giant and have got back to where they were since being reformed in 2004.

'We wanted one of the big boys at home and we got what we asked for so I'm delighted. We're about 70 spots below them in the pyramid so it's David v Goliath. It's like Cheltenham landing Tottenham in the FA Cup.

'It doesn't matter that Telford are mid-table – we're massive underdogs. We'll be going into it with a game plan to make it difficult for them and hopefully again, like Saturday, when one of our big players gets a chance he can stick it away.

'It'll be a great day with a carnival atmosphere but come 3pm we'll be ready for business.'

The Linnets will be back to work this evening when they make the short trip to Thetford Town for a Norfolk Senior Cup fourth round clash.

Captain Richard Bunting, Phil Gulliver (both suspended), Sam Mulready, Danny Beaumont (both injured) and Pat Bexfield (released on Sunday) will not feature.

The Lynn boss said: 'I'll be picking a side to win the game. It's a competition we want to stay in and it's also a handy chance for me to get minutes into one or two players.'
