Bob Carter withdraw from bowls’ Bure League
The Bure League annual general meeting at Woodbastwick saw the league grow to eleven teams as applications from Halvergate, Cromer and Thorpe Marriott were all accepted.
Delegates were informed that shortly before the AGM an application from Bob Carter had been withdrawn. All three successful applicants competed in the Wensum League last season and their successful bid could well signal the end of an era as it will cast doubt on the future of that league.
The draw for the Preliminary round of the Bure Cup produced some interesting ties with Halvergate playing East Tuddenham, Cromer playing Anglian Windows and Horsford BC playing Thorpe Marriott. Cup holders Kirby Bedon face old rivals Hevingham in the first round proper.
The fierce battle continues unabated for the Summer League Division One title between defending champions Bob Carter and last year's runners-up Wymondham. Carter extended their unbeaten run with an 8-0 home win against a below strength Kirby Bedon A side while Wymondham inflicted a 6-2 home defeat on struggling Thurton who are finding points hard to come by in the top flight.
Horsford B will be pleased with a 4-4 draw away to Kirby Bedon B while Kirby Bedon A moved into third place with a heavy 8-0 win against Thurton. Jan Hewitt, Alistair Hunter, Selwyn Goldsmith won their games by 22-8 18-7 while Leonora Chilman, Neil Davidson, John Aggas won their opening game 16-9 before romping to a 22-5 win in their second game with Carol Aggas substituting for Chilman.

In Division Two First Bus top the table with Anglian Windows, Thorpe Marriott A in second and third place respectively. Julia Cummins, Lesley Crowe, Bob Pattison beat Vic Webster's triple 21-10 and with Betty Pattison subbing for Cummins they added a 16-11 win as First Bus beat Horsford A 6-2.
First Bus also started well at Anglian Windows although they couldn't maintain this form as Windows ran out 6-2 winners.

Sprowston SSC beat Watton Green 6-2 with Terry Fletcher's triple winning 22-3 11-8. Watton Green had to settle for a share of the points at home to First Bus as Bob Oatway's triple won twice for the visitors. Division Three new boys Halvergate remain unbeaten with County Council their latest victims (5-3).
Robin Amos won twice as Deaf Sports beat Hingham Green 6-2 while Framingham Earl beat Watton Yellow 6-2 with Mervyn Blaza scoring two wins.
