Beccles off to slow start

Hampstead 27, Beccles 16: Beccles returned home from the long trip to Hampstead empty handed as their campaign got off to a disappointing start.

With last week's scheduled friendly called off at late notice Beccles went into the fixture a little rusty and failed to impose themselves on the game.

Winger John Hoffman made his mark with two tries, while Luke Wade kicked two penalties, but Hampstead generally had the upper hand and were well worth their win.

Beccles had the consolation of getting their longest trip of the season out of the way early and can now look forward to a derby clash with Lowestoft and Yarmouth at Beef Meadow on Saturday.
